So I got my Discovery 925

July 17th, 2008

I know you guys have been waiting a long time for my review of the 925, I apologize.   But here it is:

I decided to go with the gold 925 due to my golden personality.  I like a little flash, and after contemplating the cerise I decided the cerise was not pink enough for me.  What about black you say?  Well black for me is a little ho-hum, to classic.  I like to think of myself as a cool dude, on the edge, and a gold headset definitely puts me there.  From the packaging you can tell Plantronics has put a lot of effort into this headset, it may be the first time that I actually looked forward to opening up a package from Plantronics.

The headset itself is bigger than I expected, but I expected it to be tiny.  It is definitely smaller than the jawbone, and is very light but not as small as I expected.  Still, holding it in your hand it does feel a little bit cheap, but the look, style, and performance put away any fears for this headset.

The first unique thing I noticed about the 925 is that it has one big button, and a smaller button.  No volume controls.  Plantronics uses it proprietary DSP technology to automatically adjust volume, more on that later.  Looking at the headset there is a new design for the ear gel that fits in your ear.  It almost looks like a square. My first impression was that it looked uncomfortable.  Boy was I wrong.  This thing is the most comfortable headset I have used.

It is an in-the-ear headset and with most of this type of wearing style, they fall out or do not stay in ear.  That is why I have always favored over-the-ear headsets.  The Discovery 925 not only is comfortable and cool, but it can also outlast a serious head-banging session.  Try it out.

Anytime I hear that a headset does not have a volume button I cringe.  My experience with those volume technologies has not been so great.  Again, the 925 beats my expectations as the volume adjustment works great.

The Discovery 925

May 8th, 2008

Now I know you’re looking for an exciting new Bluetooth you can use and spurn once the new one comes out.  Well, it’s coming folks.  The Discovery 925 is a kick-ass looking headset.  I can’t wait to get my hands on it.  It looks really tiny and fancy and I want one.  Even the freakin’ case is awesome.  As far as tech specs go I have none right now.  I could take a look on the web with a mighty search, but until I get my hands on one you guys will just have to drool over the pictures

Nothing to report in the land of headsets

April 2nd, 2008

All’s quite on the headset front these days.  There are a few exciting products that are going to be coming out, and frankly some foolish ones.  But we’ll keep yo posted as they develop.

The Sennheiser VMX100

March 12th, 2008

Sennheiser has made quite a name for itself in superb sound quality and putting that into headsets, headphones, and other things that produce sound for our ears.  They also have taken forays into the world of Bluetooth, most notably with the new VMX100.  This thing kicks ass.  A lot of bluetooth headsets say they have excellent sound quality, but the VMX100 is the only one I’m aware of that delivers to the fullest.

Maybe it’s because of it’s VoiceMax Dual Microphone technology (whatever that means) or its ActiveGard technology (again, what?)…whatever it is, it’s awesome.  Also, this thing looks killer.  From the moment you get the package you realize you’ve purchased quality.  A lot of effort went into making opening the box fun, and it is.  It is ingeniously packaged, and makes you feel special for purchasing it.  I appreciate that, thanks Sennheiser.  Anyways, the VMX100 is also quite light, and its styling definitely sets it apart.

Another cool feature is the “on/off” switch, or lack thereof.  The VMX100 has this cool system, when the headset is in it folded up mode its off.  When you open the headset to put it on your ear, its on.  How simple is that?  There is no eartips or buds to buy for this headset down the road, no sticky rubber to stick in your ear.  It utilizes this rotating design to keep everything cool and out of your ear.

To summarize, if you want a Bluetooth headset, buy the Sennheiser VMX100…you won’t regret it.  Also, if you buy it from Headsets.com they have a 60-Day warranty and don’t give you any hassles when you try to return the product.

The Plantronics CS55 Micro

March 7th, 2008

I’ve been getting tons of email asking me what’s my favorite headset for use in the office. That’s a tough one, but I can tell you the one I do use most often. The Plantronics CS55 Micro sits on my desk right next to my phone, and I love it. Here’s why:

  • It’s freaking tiny!
  • When I’m wearing it there’s no telescoping mic in front of my mouth or pressing up against my cheek.
  • With my long, fabio hair it stays hidden
  • It has a 10 hour battery life
  • Super dependableCS55 Micro

Now there are a few things that I know are problems with this guy, since it’s so small and has no telescoping mic, it has no noise-canceling. But who cares? I don’t. I like my headsets tiny and unobtrusive and not sitting in my ear. Because it is so small it also gives my voice a “tinny” sound on the other end, again, not a big deal to me. People hear me clearly, I hear them clearly, and the headset is very “micro.” I could be using something a little more fancy like the BW900 or the CS70N, but my heart stays with the Plantronics CS55 Micro. I believe there’s only one place to get this puppy as well, over at Headsets.com.

Plantronics .Audio 770 Review

February 28th, 2008

770 is big

I was really excited to check out the new .Audio 770 from Plantronics. I personally think bigger is better when it comes to personal use headsets, and the 770 does not disappoint. Although it looks quite lare, and is, it also feels very light on the head. This might be due to the pully-like-system it has built into it, but whatever man, they are light. I could see myself wearing the .Audio 770 all day long. Also, the fact that they are open ear headsets, meaning you get better sound…cuz it’s open.

It has an inline volume control, and comes with that “USB soundcard” that Plantronics throws in. I thought I’d have no use for this, but it is actually quite useful, say if you’re sound card dies which mine did the other day.

The only thing I don’t like about this headset is how you look like an alien wearing it, but eh, I can handle that.
